My parents always took us on a vacation every summer. I remember one time we visited Meramec Caverns, one of the largest caves in the U.S. We trekked along underground pathways and were in awe of the vast stalagmites and interesting rock formations. At one point, our guide told us to stand still because he was going to turn out all the lights.

The space immediately became pitch black! There was not a single spark of light anywhere around. I remember reaching out to touch my mom for reassurance. It was a great relief when the lights were turned back on. Our guide said that in a cave that deep, our eyes can never adjust to see in the dark.
God’s word often speaks of light and darkness. God and goodness are always affiliated with the concept of light, while sin and evil are always characterized by darkness. Jesus called himself the Light of the World, and truly, there is no hope or salvation in any other name under heaven.
The Wise Men knew they needed that light. They followed a light in the heavens to guide them to Him. We can rejoice, too, that the Light of Jesus illuminates and chases away the darkness of our lives. He has removed sin, fear, and death. Now, as His children, we not only get to live in the Light but also to join Him in His work! We are honored to share His light with others who are still lost and alone in the dark.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
Let your light shine before men so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father, who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
