A Day of Service: Hamilton Hills Church Breathes New Life Into the Hope Center Campus

On the bright morning of September 14, over 140 volunteers from Hamilton Hills Church came together in a remarkable display of service and love. The Hope Center campus was bustling with activity as volunteers, ranging in age and skill, embarked on various projects to create a safer, warmer, and more welcoming environment for its residents.

Beth Kegley, the Groups Volunteer Coordinator at Hope Center Indy, commented on the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers: "Hamilton Hills Church was especially eager to work on complex projects, knowing they would be impactful to our campus and residents. We are so thankful for the volunteers who offered their carpentry skills on multiple projects."

The tasks of the day were varied and vital. Teams impressively landscaped courtyards cleaned basements and installed necessary fixtures in new staff offices. Among the less glamorous but equally important tasks was removing old carpets to make way for new flooring. Kegley says, "The high schoolers were so fun to work with and helped us remove the carpet to make way for a beautiful new floor being installed later this month. They had a tough job that required some grit, but they were laughing and smiling all the way through!" added Kegley.

A special team of 5th and 6th graders lent their hands to the Sow and Reap ministry, harvesting Thai chili peppers. This activity taught lessons on service, community support, and the value of hard work, with proceeds from the sales benefiting the Hope Center.

The children of Hamilton Hills had a wonderful opportunity to participate in a day camp nearby at Brookville Road Community Church. While there, they assembled gift bags for women entering the new Short-Term Housing program at Take Heart Residential. This activity served as a practical lesson on the parable of the Good Samaritan, instilling values of empathy and service in these young volunteers and inspiring them to become compassionate leaders in the future.

Beth Kegley expressed her gratitude on behalf of the entire Hope Center team, saying, "We’re so thankful for your impact. This means so much to provide a safe, cozy, and beautiful space for the women to be while they’re healing, which is quite the journey. But we trust God and his plan here, and we trust God to provide volunteers like Hamilton Hills. We are just so grateful for their impact and time with us today."

Like all their group volunteers, Hamilton Hills was an incredible blessing to Hope Center Indy, its staff, and its residents. Their attention to detail and diligence in organizing and executing the day with us was something the Hope Center team won’t soon forget.
